Emu War Pins and Buttons

The Emu War, also known as the Great Emu War, was a nuisance wildlife management military operation undertaken in Australia over the latter part of 1932 to address public concern over the number of emus said to be running amok in the Campion district of Western Australia.

The Great Emu War was an unsuccessful 1932 military operation undertaken in Western Australia. Soldiers were armed with Lewis machine guns in an attempt to curb the population of the emus, but while a number of the birds were killed, the emus proved too smart and agile for the humans, and the birds emerged victorious. Emus remain plentiful in the areas outside of Perth to this day.

Major Meredith said, ''If we had a military division with the capacity of these birds it would face any army in the world."
