He's played in several influential bands, including Pure Prairie League, The Notorious Cherry Bombs, and The Time Jumpers. Gill first gained mainstream attention as the lead singer of Pure Prairie League from 1978–1982. He's been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame (2007) and the Musicians' Hall of Fame (2022).
