Glendalough is a glacial valley in County Wicklow, Ireland, renowned for an early medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century by St Kevin.

Autumn Sunrise lights up the Monastic City at Glendalough, Co Wicklow, Ireland. Glendalough in Co Wicklow is home to one of the most important monastic sites in Ireland. This early Christian monastic settlement was founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century and from this developed the ‘Monastic City’. The ‘City’ consists of a number of monastic remains, and the most impressive being the Round Tower which stands 30m high.

Saint Kevin is a 6th century saint and hermit who is said to have lived to be 120 years old. There are many wonderful legends about his interactions with animals, including a blackbird, wild boar, otter, and even a lake monster! His feast day is June 3rd.
