Description: The 2nd Battalion, 501st, while attached to the 3rd Brigade, 101st received a Presidential Unit Citation for their actions during the Battle of Hamburger Hill in May 1969; the unit's battle streamer is embroidered Dong Ap Bia Mountain. The 2nd Battalion, 501st participated in Operation Texas Star, which culminated in the Battle of Fire Support Base Ripcord in July 1970. The entire 101st participated in Operation Dewey Canyon II, in support of the ARVN attack on the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos in February–March 1971.

Description: In 1962, Enrico Banducci drove past an unusual looking shuttered gas station at Columbus and Jackson in San Francisco. His friend Morgan Montague remarked, “what a great hamburger stand that would make.” A few months later, Montague and Banducci opened a 24-hour hamburger stand at the same spot, calling it Clown Alley. The triangular café, on the edge of San Francisco's North Beach’s bar scene, became a wildly popular late-night hangout as people leaving the bars craved a greasy burger. With the success of Clown Alley, the duo opened a second location at Lombard and Divisadero, but soon their partnership dissolved, with each of them taking a location, and now there were two burger stands called Clown Alley less than two miles apart.
Description: 1-506th was recognized for its role during the Tet Offensive in early 1968 and the Battle of Hamburger Hill in May 1969 together with 2-506th, during the battle of FSB Ripcord.

Description: The Iron Rakkasans moved back to Fort Campbell, Kentucky in February 1964, to serve as part of the 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division. In December 1967 the 3rd Battalion deployed to Vietnam, alongside 1st and 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment. Over the next four years the Iron Rakkasans fought in twelve major campaigns, conducting numerous air assaults and search and destroy missions. During one such mission in March 1968 Captain Paul W. Bucha, commander of D Company, received the Medal of Honor when he crawled through a hail of fire to single-handedly destroy a machine gun bunker with grenades near Phuoc Vinh, Vietnam.
