Back in 2016 I produced a series of portraits based on the classic monsters. This is the fifth piece. Boris Karloff's second most prominant role. The Mummy goes through two makeup designs in this film and it was difficult to choose which version to paint here. I chose his more human appearence in the end because you only see his Mummy form briefly in the film and that image has been done to death (no pun intended)

Nothing further from reality, Boris Karloff is remembered as a gentleman, who instead of giving scares, distributed generosity. Surely, his Frankenstein character that rolled thanks to Bela Lugosi rejected the role is his most transcended interpretation, but one must also remember that Imhotep, was another of his starring roles in the mummy's movie. Imhotep is considered the first polymath, wise in different fields of science, arts and humanities. Here is a memory for this universal Brit.
