I found a logo similar to this inside a bandoneon... very cool. I made a version in scratchboard, since there are not enough good bandoneon things on this site (or anywhere, actually). And we bandoneon (and tango) fans need stuff too!

Osvaldo Pedro Pugliese (1905-1995) was a beloved Argentine tango musician. He developed dramatic arrangements that retained strong elements of the walking beat of salon tango but also heralded the development of concert-style tango music. So says Wikipedia... it makes him sound a bit dull. If you know Pugliese, you know he's anything but. His music is fit for a Hollywood action movie; and that's how people often dance to it. Choose your partner wisely for the Pugliese tanda, or you'll end up bruised. People get a little wild. Roberto Firpo (1884-1969) was an Argentine tango pianist, composer, and orchestra leader. He would have rather been a farmer, (or cattle rancher), but he went bankrupt when he tried it. So he had to continue to slog it our with his super-renowned orchestra...look at that face! One can just imagine him as an accidental 'rock-star' of his time. Firpo was among the first innovators of the classic tango music genre. He was the creator of the standard tango sextet, and the establisher of the piano in the tango orchestra. He was the first to play 'La Cumparsita'! For me, it's interesting that he's considered 'conservative' as an Orquesta leader. If you listen to some of his milongas, you'd think they were recorded by a gang of methed-up ...

Miguel Caló (1907-1972) was a famous tango bandoneonist, composer, and the leader of the Orchestra Miguel Caló.

Francisco Canaro (1888-1964) was an Uruguayan violinist and tango orchestra leader. His parents, Italians emigrated to Uruguay, and later – when Francisco Canaro was less than 10 years old, they emigrated to Buenos Aires in the late nineteenth century.

Juan d'Arienzo (1900-1976) was an Argentine tango musician, also known as "El Rey del Compás". He was son of Italian immigrants and used more modern arrangements and instrumentation; his popular group produced hundreds of recordings.

D'Agostino (1900-1991) was a Buenos Aires character, and tango was not his only world. A skilled gambler and stubborn bachelor, he played poker at the Club del Progreso (a club where high society people used to go) and he had a close friendship with Enrique Cadícamo. About this relationship there is a curious story that portrays him completely. Cadícamo and D'Agostino had promised each other to never marry; they were playboys and bohemians and did not even think of being tied to a permanent link. But Cadícamo, after his fifty years of age, broke his word and married a twenty-year old girl. Since then D'Agostino never again talked to him...
