Description: The Lykoi cat is a mostly hairless cat breed named in 2011 in the United States. The name for the cat comes from the Lykoi gene which is responsible for its nearly-hairless coat. The gene is a natural mutation of shorthaired domestic cats and is named after the tendency to make the cats look Werewolfy (Lykoi = Lycanthrope.) Although they may resemble their sparsely-haired cohort like the Sphinx and Devon Rex, UC Davis proved through DNA testing that the Lykoi is a genetically distinct breed!
