This bird with roses is based off the Gladzor Gospels. The Gladzor Gospel is an illuminated manuscript created in the 1300s in the Armenian region. The manuscript is a lovely piece of illumination and calligraphy with bright, vibrant colors. This bird design comes from a small section of the front cover depicting birds among a series of roses. I've recreated it as a hand-carved block print and printed it by hand before scanning it to make this design.

Inspiration of the old Armenian kingdoms and the ways the illustrated their manuscripts, but combined with coffee labels and the way i design them.
