Description: Save the Wolves! While grey wolves are stable, the red wolf is critically endangered. Once common throughout the Eastern and South Central United States, red wolf populations were decimated by the early 20th century as a result of intensive predator control programs and the degradation and alteration of the species' habitat. Although their numbers have grown slowly, Mexican Wolves remain at risk because of compromised genetics, human intolerance and reluctance to release more individuals and bonded pairs to the wild.
