I spent a lovely afternoon in the small Swiss town of Stein am Rhein near the German border. The colorful timber houses are typical of the region and the wine produced locally is a nice addition to the pleasures of spending a few leisurely hours in the area.

A yacht anchored at Hugh Town harbour on St Mary's in the Isles of Scilly. These islands are an archipelago in the Atlantic off the tip of Cornwall, This is the largest of the group and is seen as the gateway to them. However, covering an area of about 6 square miles, it is still small! Hugh Town is the biggest settlement on the island and is its administrative centre. Here visitors arrive from the cruise ships and the regular ferry sevice to and from Penzance in Cornwall. Nikon D7100 Nikkor18-200

Shooting between the fence posts near the south pylon of the Harbour Bridge turned out to be easier because there were less people & less interruptions by ferries & cruise boats. A view from across the creek of the picturesque village of Bosham (pronounced 'Bozzum') in West Sussex. Seen here are the houses clustered round the harbour with the parish church of Holy Trinity in the background. The roadway round the harbour to this viewpoint floods at each high tide! The village and its church feature in the Bayeaux Tapestry which shows Harold Godwinson and his followers riding here befoe setting sail from the quay for his meeting with Duke William in 1064.

Beautifully situated, this marina looks over the estuary of the River Conwy to Deganwy and the high ground surrounding Llandudno - notably the Great Orme. Conwy itself is steeped in history evidenced in the mighty castle standing guard over the town - a world heritage site. Here though, boats sit quietly at anchor or tied up at the jetties, their shapes reflected in the calm water.

Maryport is the southernmost town on the Solway Firth and across the water can be seen the Scottish coast, This was once a thriving port centred round the coal and ship building industries. Having declined in importance since Victorian times, it is now developing as a holiday and cultural centre and the harbour is now home to fishing boats and yachts.

Lightship 2000 is a restored old red Light vessel with a cafe and chapel on board situated in Cardiff Bay. The ship was launched in 1953 and from that year until 1989 it was a working light vessel in a number of locations around the UK, ending its working life at Rhossili on the Gower Peninsula to warn of the Helwick Swatch, a treacherous sandbank. It was purchased in 1993 and refurbished as a floating Christian centre.
