Description: As the 25th Infantry Division prepared to deploy to Vietnam in 1966, it was found to be short on personnel. In January 1966, the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry and the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry (Mechanized) were assigned from Alaska. The 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry was relieved on 14 January 1966 from assignment to the 171st Infantry Brigade and assigned to the 25th Infantry Division. The Battalion was inactivated on 5 June 1972 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
