Description: He was a priest. The communist regime murdered him for it. Father Jerzy Popiełuszko (1947–1984) became one of the most powerful voices of the Polish Solidarity movement — celebrating Mass for workers, speaking truth to power, and refusing to be silenced until they silenced him permanently. His murder by secret police made him a martyr. His memory helped bring down a regime.
