Description: Lou Andreas-Salomé quote: Do you know what love is? I mean the most profound thing about it? I will tell you: it is the mystery of completely sharing the experience of what is happening to the other person. As if hypnotized, as if replaced or exchanged with that other person, you follow the most subtle stirrings of that other person's soul, enjoying them, experiencing them, in that person. For that reason, they call love a kind of insanity or possession by the other. What is the result? The result is that both persons experience the same thing — that they become identical, so to speak...

Description: This applies to English teachers, English students, and any work in general because procrastination is an incredibly powerful force that convinces us our future selves will somehow be much more motivated. We look at one daunting task, experience a wave of immediate exhaustion, and enthusiastically delegate the responsibility to tomorrow. The instructor avoiding a stack of essays, the learner dreading a research paper, or the employee postponing a complex analysis all use this comforting fiction. We truly believe that after a good night of sleep, we will wake up filled with endless energy and the genuine desire to work hard. Of course, when tomorrow finally arrives, we stubbornly repeat the entire cycle all over again.
Description: For an English teacher, an English student, or anyone in any work environment, this habit is undeniable. We use the promise of a highly productive future morning to completely excuse our current state of extreme laziness. An English teacher will look at an ungraded stack of tests at five in the evening and decide that the next sunrise will somehow grant them endless energy. An English student will close their heavy textbook late at night, fully convinced they will wake up three hours early to finish the chapter. In any work context, an employee will completely ignore an urgent message, assuming tomorrow will be much less chaotic. We constantly trust our future selves to handle the exact problems we refuse to solve today.
The phrase "I will do it first thing tomorrow" is the greatest lie I consistently tell to myself Pin
