Description: Herman Montes knocked out former World Boxing Association welterweight champion Pipino Cuevas in the third round Thursday night in a scheduled 10-round super welterweight bout. The fighers were exchanging heavy punches in the middle of the ring before Montes of Los Angeles unloaded a crushing right to Cuevas' jaw. Cuevas of Mexico City dropped to the canvas and lay sprawled on his back as referee Dr. Jen Kin counted him out with 52 seconds left in the third round. Cuevas was revived seconds later and wobbled back to his corner. Montes won the first two rounds, landing cleaner blows to Cuevas' head and body. Montes is now 34-3-4. Cuevas fell to 31-8.
