Description: In Japan, Takara released 24 G.I.Joe & Cobra figures in 1986. These figures were just like their U.S. counterparts, but were offered on more vibrant card backs with a Japanese market-specific logo and a mix of Japanese Kanji and American English text. The subtext over the logo read "We are here to help . let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go." followed by "The strongest extracurricular team on the ground." There were however some differences here and there, one of which was that Zartan was offered as a single-carded figure that did not include his Swamp Skier vehicle.
Description: Inspired by the classic 80s animated series that started it all! Appointed as Guardian of Cybertron by Megatron, the loyal Shockwave remained stationed on the planet for millions of years, even while his teammates slumbered on Earth. He was singlehandedly (ha) responsible for menacing the remaining Autobot resistance movements on Cybertron, and when Megatron was reactivated in 1984, assisted in the development of Space Bridge technology.
Description: Takara (タカラ) was founded by Yasuta Satō in 1955 as Sato Vinyl with the motto "playing is culture," and one of his first successes was securing the license to produce a line of popular American dolls for the Japanese market. In 1960, they changed their name to Takara Vinyl, though this new name would be shortened to simply Takara in 1966. In the '70s, Takara exploded with new products, ranging from actions figures to transforming robots. Over the following decades, Takara would continue to grow and thrive through an increasingly convoluted chain of licensing, evolving, and re-licensing of toy franchises, some of which remain near impossible to unravel even today.
