A beautiful Irish lake side scene captured on a sunny Autumn day in West Cork Ireland. The trees and sky are reflecting perfectly in the calm water of the lake.

Sycamore Tree Under a Blue Moon Watercolor Watercolor and Ink Batik on rice paper, by Conni Schaftenaar I recently saw this sycamore tree standing at the edge of a soybean field near where I live. I took a bunch of photos, then I used Photoshop to create my "moon behind the tree look" for reference (that digital collage is also on my gallery - I created that simply to be my reference photo for this painting, but liked it as a photo/digital enough that I posted that one, too!). The basic scene is drawn with a Micron pen on the rice paper. This is a very experimental piece for me in that I tried a different approach to the wax resist. Getting fine lines of hot wax onto my drawing usually proves frustrating, with blobs at the beginnin...

Autumn Skies over Red Barn, watercolor on paper by Conni Schaftenaar. I took a photo of a barn in my rural neighborhood in West Michigan and have done a couple of paintings of it featuring dramatic autumn colors in the tree and the sky. It's a cool old wooden barn, so I had fun playing with a couple of variations of the scene! Reference photo is my own.
