Description: What are Odin's ravens called? Odin (Óðinn), the Norse God who sacrificed an eye for wisdom relied upon two ravens; Huginn and Muninn. Their names mean 'thought' and 'memory' (or mind). Through his raven messengers, Odin was kept informed of all that happened in the entire world, known as Miðgarð
Description: Huginn and Muninn (“Thought” and “Memory” respectively) are pet ravens of the Norse god, Odin. Odin’s ravens fly all over Midgard (Earth) collecting all of the information they can in order to report it back to Odin. In my interpretation, Huginn and Munnin are surrounding a magical stave named Ægishjálmr (Helm of Awe or Helm of Terror). It’s one of the most mysterious and powerful symbols in Norse mythology.
Description: The raven banner was flown by various Viking chieftains. The flag, as depicted in Norse artwork, was roughly triangular, with a rounded outside edge on which there hung a series of tabs or tassels. The raven was a symbol of Odin, who was often depicted accompanied by two ravens named Huginn and Muninn, so the raven banner likely conferred Odin's protection.

Description: This block print shirt design is based on a probable Viking raven flag. The raven is a symbol closely associated with Odin-- having two ravens named Huginn and Muninn-- and was further associated with war since Odin is the god of war. It's said that the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok in the Great Heathen Army flew a raven banner as well as other viking figures throughout history. I've recreated the image as a block print in my own style following some historical examples then printed and scanned it to make this shirt!
