Everyone wants to know more about the country in which he was born. For me there are still outstanding questions, which I am going to learn in the near future. Firstly, this is the name of the country. I was born in Ukraine. In translation from the Ukrainian language "kraina" means the country. So my country can be called "Country U". Thus, I had the idea to create my imaginary country inhabited by special creatures, the prototype of which were my grandchildren and other nice people. And my color decision was influenced most directly by my trip to Australia. This is another acrylic painting 20 x 40cm Inspired by the myth of Ariadne, this painting depicts her realization she's been left behind after her lover Theseus has sailed in the night (while she slept). It's an interesting myth, and am not sure I am overly on her side; she helped Theseus slay the minotaur by giving him thread to find his way back out of the minotaur's labyrinth. The minotaur is her family, or at least, half her blood, so she's sorta betrayed her own family - even though he is a monster! The black rose is a symbol of death, hatred, revenge, sorrow or mourning. It can also be used when conveying a farewell (wiki) and I thought it the appropriate flower for this jilted lover. I like drawing surrealistic art. I enjoy the weird and the odd, going outside of beauty norms. It could be categorized as pop surrealism I think, or lowbrow art.

Two of my great loves are mythology and the macabre, so it was only a matter of time before I painted the personification of death. Mythology has almost always depicted Death as male, skeletal, wearing a long cloak and carrying a scythe. Breaking from tradition I thought it would be fun to instead portray Death as a nine year old girl… with a big scythe, in the deep dark woods. That’s not scary at all!

The eerie glow from the deep signifies that there is still a soul under the rubbish and debris that represent the body. The soul fire has a serious chance to grow and engulf everything on its path. A perfect gift idea for those who like a good riddle and allegory.
