Born in 1917 in Cuba, Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha III, his family fled to Miami during the Cuban revolution. Before that his grandfather was an executive at Bacardi. After High School in 1930s NYC he popularized the Conga line in the US with the Desi Arnaz Orchestra 💃🏻 In 1939 he went to Broadway then Hollywood the following year where he and Lucy were married almost immediately after they met. The other half of tv’s first interracial couple, he and Lucy were on the FBI’s sh*t list during the red scare. Their production studio Desilu popularized the 3 camera filming technique and the sitcom format we know today, as well as being the first show to air reruns.
