Originally, the land where the park is located was part of a lumber mill. However, in the late 20th century, the city of Redding began transforming the area into a public park. The park's main attraction is the Sundial Bridge, a pedestrian bridge that spans the Sacramento River and serves as a working sundial. The bridge was designed by architect Santiago Calatrava and completed in 2004. It has since become an iconic landmark of Redding.
