Description: For Greeks and Romans, the columns are ornamented with images that are veritable monuments to the heroes' exploits and often tell their story in scenes depicted in bas-reliefs. In the ancient cultures of the Iberian Peninsula, columns were a kind of abstract and magical language. The three most common types of Greek columns are those of the Doric, Ionian, and Corinthian orders. The styles of many columns used in architecture were invented millennia ago in Greece and these are the three main originators of the columns developed by ancient Greece.
