"Winter Light" is part of my Spirits of Winter series and originally rendered in watercolor and ink. She is the quiet flame of hope, the guardian of the thin light that survives in the coldest Winter. Even when cold white blankets all that we know, we can always take comfort in the knowledge that the light will return.

Where better place for rats to hide than inside a human skull? The original was painted on A4 stretched canvas in acrylics.

A Hand of Glory is the dried and pickled hand of a male person who has been hanged, often specified as being the left hand, or, if the man was hanged for murder, the hand that did the deed. Hand of Glory combined with a candle made from fat from the corpse of the same malefactor who died on the gallows would have rendered motionless all persons to whom it was presented. It is a fascinating and macabre historical practice that has inspired a lot of 19th century stories. I have shown the hand of glory with a cute little red snake wrapped around it and an eyeball in the palm. I do enjoy drawing eyeballs... This design was hand drawn, ink on paper, and finished digitally.

The Lady of December bears the white Narcissus and dons the stone of Turquoise. The white Narcissus celebrates fertility and resurrection while the Turquoise shall bring her prosperity and good fortune. She ushers in the beginning of Winter’s reign.
