The Clinton Owls were a Minor League Baseball team based in Clinton, Iowa, United States, that operated in the Illinois–Indiana–Iowa League in 1937–1938 as an affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers. From 1939–1940 they were an affiliate of the New York Giants and were known as the Clinton Giants. The team was disbanded at the onset of World War II. Today, the Clinton franchise is the Clinton LumberKings who still play at Riverview Stadium, now called NelsonCorp Field.

Defunct Batavia Trojans Baseball 1966-1987

The Charleston Rockets were a professional American football team based in Charleston, West Virginia. They began play in 1964 as a member of the United Football League, and became a charter franchise in the Continental Football League in 1965. In their first season in the COFL, the Rockets finished with a perfect 14–0 record and won the league championship over the Toronto Rifles, 24–7. After an ownership change in 1968, the team announced that it was suspending operations in January 1969.[1] Its place in the league's lineup was replaced by the Jersey Jays, returning the CFL to North Jersey after the departure of the Newark Bears to Orlando three seasons prior.

The Edmonton Cracker-Cats were a shambolic independent baseball operation that arrived at Edmonton’s Telus Field in the spring of 2005 in the wake of the departure of the Class AAA Edmonton Trappers of the Pacific Coast League. The Trappers left town the previous fall to move to Round Rock, Texas. The Cracker-Cats were an expansion team in the Northern League, an independent circuit based in the American Upper Midwest that also featured a popular franchise in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Cracker-Cats were part of a dual-pronged geographic expansion to Alberta in 2005 that also included a new team for Calgary, another Alberta city that had also lost its Pacific Coast League franchise in recent years.

In 1998, the Will County Cheetahs of the Heartland League moved to Midlothian, IL, where they became the Cook County Cheetahs. Managed by Brian Dayett, they were 23-11 in the first half, a half-game behind the top Tennessee Tomahawks. They were last in the second half at 14-18 but stunned the Tomahawks in back-to-back games in the playoffs for the title. The Cheetahs were last in attendance (10,552) among the clubs that survived the season, the last for the league. All-Stars were 2B Neil Bradshaw (.264) and P Derek Santiago (8-3 with a league-leading 2.17 ERA).

The Wisconsin State League was a relatively stable post-war Class D minor league baseball circuit. The league formed with six clubs in the summer of 1940 and added two more expansion clubs, Janesville and Oskhosh, in 1941. Like most of the minors, the Wisconsin State League shut down from 1943 through 1945 during the height of the war effort. The league’s attendance and the financial viability of its clubs were already in decline when the National when the when the National League’s Boston Braves moved to Milwaukee in 1953.

When the team was founded, they turned to the community for financial support. The response was so great that they were able to not only buy their uniforms but also construct their own ball field. The team got its name from the bright green uniforms and dark green stockings worn by the players. Originally, the team uniform boasted a large S.B. (for South Bend) on the front of their jerseys. In the first game they played, over 1,500 spectators came to watch the Greenstockings go up against a Valparaiso team. The visitors taunted the South Bend players by yelling that the S.B. stood for “silly boys,” and as a result, the team changed their uniforms to say South Bend.

The Columbus Jets were a Minor League baseball team that played in Columbus, Ohio, from 1955 to 1970. The team moved from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada where they were known as the Ottawa Athletics. The Jets were a member of the Triple-A International League. The Jets' name came from Columbus' role in manufacturing aircraft by North American Aviation for World War II. They were the Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Athletics (1955–56) and Pittsburgh Pirates (1957–70). The Jets played their home games at Jets Stadium.

The Cape Fear Crocs were a minor league baseball team in Fayetteville, North Carolina. They were a low Class-A baseball team which played in the South Atlantic League, and were a farm team of the Montreal Expos for the franchise's entire tenure as the Cape Fear Crocs. They played all of their home games at J. P. Riddle Stadium and were previously known as the Fayetteville Generals.

The Louisville Coal Miners were a minor league baseball team based in Louisville, Colorado. In 1898, the Coal Miners briefly played as members of the Colorado State League, hosting home games at the Athletic Grounds. Louisville folded during the 1898 season.

The Connecticut Defenders were a Minor League Baseball team based in Norwich, Connecticut. The team, which played in the Eastern League, was the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants major-league club from 2003 until following the 2009 season, when the Defenders relocated to Richmond, Virginia and are now known as the Richmond Flying Squirrels. The Defenders played in Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium, located in Norwich; opened in 1995, it seats 6,275 fans. The Defenders had been known as the Norwich Navigators from 1995 until October 2005. Prior to the 2003 season, the Navigators had been an affiliate of the New York Yankees.

The Milwaukee Rampage is a former professional American soccer team, that was located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which played in the A-League. They formed in 1993 and dissolved in 2002.

The Cape Cod Buccaneers were a professional ice hockey team based in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. They were an inaugural member of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League and were owned by future WWE CEO Vince McMahon.

The Keokuk Pirates, a minor league baseball team, played in the Central Association and Central League between 1947 and 1949.

The Cedar Rapids Braves were a farm club of the National League’s Milwaukee Braves from 1958 to 1962. The Braves played in the Class A Three-I League from 1958 until that league closed down after the 1961 season. Cedar Rapids then shifted to the Class D Midwest League in 1962 for the city’s final summer as a Braves affiliate. Cedar Rapids won the Three-I League championship in 1958, posting the league’s best record (77-53) before defeating the Davenport DavSox in the league championship series.

The Boston Sweepers were a semi-pro football outfit that drew crowds of a few thousand per game on the northern outskirts of Boston during the mid-1960’s. The team formed in 1962 as a semi-pro entry in the New England Football League. Press accounts alternately referred to the team as the Boston Sweepers, Chelsea-Everett Sweepers and Nu-Way Sweepers that fall. The latter name derived from team owner Ted Barron’s Nu-Way Disposal Service business.
