Description: District 9 is a 2009 science fiction mockumentary film directed by Neill Blomkamp in his feature film debut, written by Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell, and produced by Peter Jackson and Carolynne Cunningham. It is a co-production of New Zealand, the United States, and South Africa. The film stars Sharlto Copley, Jason Cope, and David James, and was adapted from Blomkamp's 2006 short film Alive in Joburg. Description: Nestled deep in District 9 is a hard to find little spot that serves some of the best craft beer in Johannesburg. The only problem is that you and I can't go. Johnathan Foley, the owner of The Picked Prawn has a strict "Prawns Only" policy. Which is a shame because no one else in town is slinging beer quite this tasty. I had the pleasure of trying Johnathon's beer. I friend of mine smuggled a Growler of their Hazy IPA out of District 9. And it was out of this world! Hopefully in the coming years, The Pickled Prawn will loosen it's policy and allow us to partake in their delcious craft beer.

Description: Back in 1938 Max Silverman opened a record store at 1836 7th Street in Washington, D.C. under the name Waxie Maxie Quality Music Co. Silverman's store was an instant hit as he stocked it with all the latest recordings as well as those from up-and-coming musicians, including many black artists, something that was still not very common at the time. Silverman began holding jam sessions and live radio broadcasts in the storefront's window, a spot that attracted teens and young adults to the store and became known as the Maxie's goldfish bowl. Silverman would eventually change the store's name to Waxie Maxie's and open over 30 locations throughout the Washington Metropolitan area.
