On a steamy hot Australia Day, 2011 Sydneysiders were flocking to the water .. beaches, harbours, anywhere cooler. Manly, on the northern side of the harbour is a great place to be on a hot day. This photo was taken from the platform of Circular Railway Station as we headed towards the Sydney Harbour celebrations. Gloucester Docks Number of views as of 18th June 2017 = 300. Founded in AD 97 by the Romans, the city of Gloucester (Gloucestershire, England) has long been an important commercial centre and port. Linked to the Severn estuary by the Gloucester and Sharpness canal, the port was strategically important due to its proximity to Birmingham, less than 50 miles away to the north. The many warehouses lining the quayside (including Biddle and Shipton shown here) date from the port's heyday in the 19th century. They were mainly built for the storage and processing of imported wheat, barley, oats, maize, linseed and cotton seed. Most have now been restored and converted for office and residential use. Two Little Maids from Poole Number of views as of 22nd January 2018 = 460. 'Maid of Poole' and 'Maid of the Harbour', two pleasure craft moored up on Poole Quay (Dorset, England) for the evening. These vessels are heavily used especially during the summer months for tours around the harbour and trips to Brownsea Island. Date: 19th August 2012.

Constitution Dock Hobart Came out of a pub after a couple of refreshing ales and saw the rainbow. Ran a couple of blocks to the dock to capture it.

The Old Lifeboat Station, Poole, Dorset, England Number of views as of 7th September 2018 = 280. Established in 1882 and replacing an older building at Sandbanks, Poole's old lifeboat station at Fisherman's Dock saw 92 years of active service before being converted into a museum. Key events in the station's history: In October 1884, James Hughes, a member of the lifeboat crew, fell in front of the main wheels of the carriage whilst getting out of the lifeboat after an exercise, and was killed. In 1897, a slipway was constructed at a cost of £135. In January 1919, rescued 21 Japanese crew members of an ex-German submarine. In May 1940, the Poole lifeboat Thomas Kirkwright took part in the evacuation of British forces at Dunkirk and was th...

Tenby Harbour Boats, Black And White A zoomed in photograph of Tenby Harbour Quay, showing all the beautiful houses that overlook this iconic harbour in South Wales, UK. Tenby (Welsh: Dinbych-y-pysgod, lit. 'fortlet of the fish') is both a walled seaside town in Pembrokeshire, Wales, on the western side of Carmarthen Bay, and a local government community. Notable features include 2+1⁄2 miles (4.0 km) of sandy beaches and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, the 13th century medieval town walls. With its strategic position on the far west coast of Britain, and a natural sheltered harbour from both the Atlantic Ocean and the Irish Sea, Tenby was a natural settlement point, probably a hill fort with the mercantile nature of the settlement ...

Clovelly, North Devon, England Number of views as of 10th April 2018 = 600. A steep, cobbled street (originally built using pebbles from the beach and far too steep for motor vehicles) leads 'down-along' between white-painted cottages to the small harbour at Clovelly on the North Devon coast, one of my favourite places in Devon. The village has no individually-owned houses, the whole village being owned and maintained by a single family. Once a bustling fishing port, bringing in herring and mackerel, the Clovelly area was also rife with smuggling, wrecking and piracy. Old Lifeboat Station, Poole, November 2022 The old lifeboat station on Poole Quay (Dorset, England) housed the town's lifeboat from 1882 to 1974, and is now a museum. The new station is situated on the western end of the quay near the lifting bridge. Poole is also home to the RNLI college where crews and lifeguards from around the UK and Ireland are trained. Date: 11th November 2022.

Well, ok, officially it's a couple of months away, but with a clear blue sky, a bench decorated with bright yellow daffodils, the priory church bathed in sunshine, I was reminded of my favourite season.

*Poole Pilot, September 2020* A busy scene at Poole Quay (Dorset, England). The pilot boat is moored close to the police launch, while an RNLI crew on a training exercise wait for the town bridge to open, before proceeding into Holes Bay, where the RNLI college and headquarters is situated. Sydney Opera House at Night

The Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth Number of views as of 20th November 2018 = 370. The 170 metre (560 foot) Spinnaker Tower, overlooking the water-front at Portsmouth (Hampshire, England) and visible from miles around. The Tower represents the shape of a spinnaker sail billowing in the wind, a design accomplished using two large, white, sweeping steel arcs, which give the tower its unusual, yet striking appearance. The Tower is the centre-piece of the Portsmouth harbour redevelopment project, which has transformed the area, and also includes the popular Gunwharf Quays shopping centre. Date: 2nd January 2012.
