This building is the Cellar Door/ Art Gallery.. Once upon a time - the calf shed. This property 45+ yrs ago used to have a dairy. There used to be a 2 roomed little cottage next to it and bare paddocks around it. The curious additions to this building, the house and another little house are made from cinder brick, adobe render and wooden slabs. Today we bottled our Shiraz. This is called a Pet Nat. a Pétillant-naturel, or a pét-nat to those in the know. Well, it refers to wines produced in the méthode ancestrale, an ancient and natural way of making sparkling wines, predating the méthode champenoise that we are more familiar with. All sorts of old world traditions are employed to create these simpler, more rustic sparkling’s, but essentially these wines are bottled before primary fermentation and are finished without the addition of secondary yeasts or sugars. Pét-nats are often cloudy, unfiltered and capped with a crown seal (for safety!!). Magpie Springs is a vineyard we grow grapes. Our vintage is approxamately in March every year. Our vineyard is in the Adelaide Hills Wine Region only 12mins from McLaren Vale. These secauteurs are designed to pick the fruit. When vintage is on, teams of people arrive at dawn. Someone in the wine industry will recognize what an intense time of year this is.We grow 7 varietals of grapes organically. One day last year we had 150 people onsite picking. Despite what you may think ours is small business. What we produce for ourselves is very boutique and only available onsite - 5 different winemakers buy our fruit.
