I love fashion, not for what it does re: conspicuous consumption but for the historic role it plays in economy, society and politics, whether acknowledged or not. It allows the wearer a type of language, a guard, an armor and a mask and this is how that feels for me.

Abigail Adams was the extraordinary wife of our second President and Founding Father, John Adams, as well as the mother of our sixth President, John Quincy Adams. She is well recognized for the tremendous guidance and advice she gave to her husband during the revolution and during his tenure as both Vice President and President. We are indebted to her for her influence, her strength, and her unfailing devotion to the cause of Liberty.

I made this work, titled 'The Rot Beneath the Gown,' as a representation of the costs involved in consumerism, fashion and consumption - the human costs, slave labour, historical exploitation, imperialism and death that persists to this day to feed the colonial need for hoarding resources, beauty and clothing to express class.

Watermelons were originally a symbol of black emancipation pre Jim Crow era and were then co-opted by racists to become a racist trope about their supposed uncleanliness, childishness, idleness and unfitness for the public square. It was spread in US print throughout the late 1860s and supported the post-emancipation argument that African Americans were unsuited for citizenship. Well, FUCK that.

Made this collage because I loved the way the original subjects are posing and looking at the viewer from above. Filled it out with images that interested me from individual pages in magazines. Dream until its your reality - for me, that's making a living off my art and financial independence.

A visualization of who actually built the house and the hidden unpaid labour that built our country. There would be no capitalist economy without the labor of enslaved people on cotton plantations, funnelling money North and abroad. There would be no capitalist economy without the enslaved labor or indentured labor on tea plantations, cotton plantations, sugar cane fields.

Freedom feat. two trail blazing women: Shirley Chisholm, the first black female Congresswoman & the first black candidate for a major-party nomination for President of the United States, and the first woman to run for the Democratic Party's nomination. Also featuring Madame CJ Walker, the first black female millionaire: Born in 19th century rural Louisiana to former slaves, Sarah Breedlove rose to become the first female African-American self-made millionaire in the United States. Known as Madam C.J. Walker, she developed a line of beauty care products for black women.

I made this collage because black lives matter, all day, every goddamn day.

An analog collage exploring gender & fluidity - a man's face on a woman's body with clothing that is non gender specific. Basically, the way everything fits with each other, it's a reminder that a lot of the social constructs we believe to be rigid, are not and never have been. Blue was for girls & pink was for boys pre-1940s, men wore heels historically and skirts, so why hold onto rigid boxes of self and other identification when to let it all go frees us all to be ourselves?

Corporations & Marketing = corporate violence.

I made this when Black athletes were being disqualified unfairly at the Olympics or being threatened with disqualification simply because their natural hormone levels "gave them an unfair advantage". Just let them be great.

How I imagine Athena could have looked like for me.

This work is a large piece that has smaller art pieces embedded in it, as a reflection of what museums and media could look like proper representation of BIPOC and how important that representation and its historical lack is to children and adults in underrepresented communities.

I feel a lot of rage, I carry a lot of rage, and given the multiple genocides happening despite worldwide protests for action, no movement by global governments as it disrupts their interests. This is a representation of that rage, and its promise.

An early work but no less beloved, about what it feels like trying to carve out equal rights while others work hard to claw each gain back and tell us it's too soon, just wait, do it peacefully, don't make a fuss, play in respectability politics. All bullshit, set to Nina Simone's classic protest song, Mississippi Goddamn.

I made this work years ago in response to all the grief, rage, endless trauma that became centre stage with the BLM movement. Seeing brown and black bodies being constantly brutalized for no reason, with no accountability, is too much to take.

Giggle and snort and cackle and howl and chuckle and huff and puff and grin and blow the house down.
