Ed Harvey opened his boat building business, Harvey Marine, in Aloha, Oregon back in 1954, but it really didn't get much attention from until 1974, when a 26' tall rabbit took up residence. As the story goes, a big storm damaged a fiberglass Texaco 'Big Friend' statue at a local service station and the owner brought it to Ed for fiberglass repair. Ed fixed it, but the owner never returned, so the statue lay abandoned in the boat yard for years until Ed decided to decapitate Big Friend and replace his noggin with a rabbit head of his own design. It quickly became a local landmark that became known far beyond Aloha and remains a popular roadside attraction to this very day.

This design is paying a little respect to some of the strange places we grew up around. This is a real place, with a really weird story. Pick up one of these to rep your home base or just as a way of letting people know you dig nostalgic roadside attractions.

Located in the heart of the Ozark Mountains, Springfield is the third-largest city in the state of Missouri and the county seat of Greene County. It is the principal city of the Springfield metropolitan area, which has a population of 462,369 and includes the counties of Christian, Dallas, Greene, Polk, and Webster. Springfield's nickname is "Queen City of the Ozarks" and is also known as the "Birthplace of Route 66." This '50s era travel design celebrates Springfield and some surrounding points of interest.

Like antiques? From weathervanes to antique model trains, this shop seems to have it all. I discovered this antique shop in Quebec during a road trip. I was traveling through several small farming communities along the south shore of the St Lawrence River when I found this. It was full of antique metal art and porcelain sale signs. This included old petrol signs popular with collectors of garage art. Of course, I couldn't pass this scene up to make a collection of photos. If you've traveled down the I40 through Amarillo you've probably seen the signs for The big Texan Steak Ranch. I wish more places had quirky signs like it, that and giant steaks to eat.

His culinary reputation is perhaps a bit inflated, although he does work light.

The 1940s and 50s venue on Flatbush Ave and Ave V in Brooklyn, which became the Town & Country Club in the 60s! This design was recreated from a vintage matchbook.

Recreation of a vintage billboard for South Of the Border, a roadside attraction off the I-95 on the border between North and South Carolina. I spent many a road trip down to Myrtle Beach seeing these billboards.

A secular pilgrimage long dreamed of and finally arrived, a place of wonder, of longing fulfilled and reawakened too. It felt so vast, that I could travel for days, weeks even and never reach the end. My own American dream was formed by 1970s dramas, films, books and fantasies, a land of palm trees and long streets, of huge cities where I could lose myself in a maze of teeming neighbourhoods of promise. Having arrived, finally, jet lagged and redolent of long haul travel, I set out to explore this promised land. I fell in love with the signage, tatty, dated, a reminder of my own 1970s American dream. This work is rich in bright colour, youthful and joyful, with close attention to detail. A great gift, a wonderful collection starter.

All you have to do is header to Tater's Gators on US 41, and while it may look like a cheesy roadside attraction, behind the mobile home office and weather sign you'll find a 35 acre gator zoo that allows visitors to get up close with these magnificent beasts in their natural habitat.

he Original House of Pies is an American restaurant chain, started c. 1969 by Al Lapin Jr., an early franchise system designer and founder of International Industries Inc. who was also responsible for International House of Pancakes, Copper Penny Coffee Shops, Orange Julius, and others. Specializing in many different flavors of pie available for dessert, the chain was popular up through 1976 when it was sold to Robert Herndon, who eventually downsized the chain's locations. By c. 1986 the franchise chain filed for bankruptcy and closed most of its locations.
