The business served ranchers, families, and small restaurants across Kootenai County, offering custom butchering alongside everyday groceries at a time when North Idaho still relied on independent packers and family‑run stores. What set YJ apart was the small zoo kept on the property, a collection of animals that famously included a lion. Families stopped for meat, groceries, and the chance to see the animals, giving the store an outsized place in local memory. YJ Packing Co. eventually closed, leaving behind stories of the grocery, BBQ and lion in its yard
