Description: It is a member of the Pike family. It is native to the eastern coast of North America from southern Canada to Florida, and west to Texas in the United States. It lives in vegetated lakes, swamps, and backwaters and quiet pools of creeks and small to medium rivers. It feeds primarily on smaller fish, until it grows large enough to ambush large fish from cover with a rapid lunge and to secure it with its sharp teeth. It can reach a maximum length of 99 cm (39 inches) and a maximum published weight of 4.3 kg (about 9.5 pounds).
