Description: Before the big screen, before the new digs—there was the Igloo. Celebrate Pittsburgh’s original hockey cathedral with this clean, nostalgic tribute to the Civic Arena. A symbol of Steel City pride, Stanley Cup glories, and concerts that shook the dome, this design honors the arena that raised generations of Yinzers. For those who still hear the roof opening in their dreams.
Description: We always thought that the Pipers were named after steelworkers who made steel pipe. But actually they were named for Scottish Bagpipers! This is still appropriate however, given Andrew Carnegie's Scottish heritage! This is a rarely seen alternate logo for the Pittsburgh Pipers basketball team, used in some advertising promotions. Note the bagpipe itself is a basketball!

Description: The Pipers were one of the ABA's inaugural franchises in 1967. On June 13, 1967, team president Gabe Rubin selected the name of the team to be "Pipers" while signing a three-year deal to play games in the Civic Arena. Rubin stated in the press that he picked the name because he "liked the way it sounded" and wanted to eschew a long process for a name selection.
