Corn Corn Mascot Shorts
Description: If you were a kid in the late '60 or early '70s, you were likely introduced to the comedic stylings of W.C. Fields by way of a mascot known as W.C. Frito. Ironically inspired by the vaudeville comedian known for his love of alcohol and dislike of children and dogs, the cartoon mascot would show up in spots in between cartoons to extoll his love of corn chips. In addition to the TV commercials, some chip bags included W.C. Frito prizes like pencil erasers and stickers. They also had mail order promotional offers for other cool W.C. Frito items that kids could send points from their bags in to exchange for.
Description: Introduced by Post in 1967, Corn Crackos was a sweet breakfast cereal made from corn, oat, and soy flour. The box promised, "It's crackly when you crunch!!!" and featured a quirky red bird with a mod haircut and a cheerful British accent as its mascot. In TV commercials, the bird declared, "It crackles when you crunch... the whole family will go for these sweet twists of golden corn cereal... crackling with energy and crackling crisp!" Despite its memorable advertising and colorful mascot, Corn Crackos failed to catch on and disappeared from grocery shelves after just one year, becoming one of the more obscure cereals of the late 1960s.
Description: Membership has its privileges and apparently one of them is access to aggressively flavoured corn. Carrum Corn Cob Club is the completely fictional home of hot buttered cobs, private tastings, velvet ropes and a secret handshake that remains under review. Wear it proudly if you’re a founding member, a corn enthusiast or someone who believes the general public has enjoyed unrestricted cob access for far too long. Fun fact: Corn cobs nearly always contain an even number of kernel rows because the flowers from which the kernels develop grow in pairs.
Description: Introduced in 1952, Frosted Flakes quickly became one of America’s most recognizable breakfast cereals. Originally called “Sugar Frosted Flakes,” it built on the success of Corn Flakes by adding a sweet frosting that made it a favorite with kids and families. Its popularity soared thanks to an enthusiastic tiger mascot who became a staple of American advertising. Over the decades, Frosted Flakes grew into a pop culture icon with countless commercials, spin-offs, and limited flavors. In the early ’60s, the cereal debuted in Japan as Cornfrost, later renamed the more playful Corn Frosty. This design is inspired by the bold Japanese branding of the early 1970s.
