Description: Ellis Alfred Swearengen was an American pimp and entertainment entrepreneur who ran the Gem Theater, a notorious brothel, in Deadwood, South Dakota, for 22 years during the late 19th century. Al Swearengen was played by Ian McShane in all three seasons of Deadwood, appearing in every episode.
Description: Born James Butler Hickok in 1837, Wild Bill was a gunfighter, lawman, gambler, and showman who became a folk hero of the American West. Hickok earned his nickname for his expert marksmanship, which was evident early in his life. He became famous for his shootouts with outlaws like the McCanles gang and for his role in dispersing a mob threatening to lynch a man during the Civil War.

Description: The Gem Theater was a saloon in Deadwood, South Dakota, owned by Al Swearengen. Swearengen opened the Gem Variety Theater on April 7, 1877 at the corners of Wall and Main streets to entertain the population of the mining camp with "prize fights" (as was customary with Swearengen's previous establishment the Cricket Saloon, no prizes were actually involved), stage acts consisting of comedians, singers and dancers, and primarily, prostitutes.
