Elysian Shorts
Description: Dive into darkness with this haunting Infant Annihilator design, featuring ghostly limbs, twisted waters, and surreal gore washed in eerie teal tones. Inspired by The Elysian Grandeval Galèriarch, this brutal deathcore visual is as chaotic as the music itself — fast, technical, and disturbingly beautiful.
Description: The first map that I drew after moving to Los Angeles was of Elysian Park. I'm not sure what happened to that original one but this is a later one that I made. Initially, I used ink for the green section (as I did silver with the Dodger Stadium parking lot) but it looked muddy so I later went back and painted it with oil pain. https://ericbrightwell.com/2018/10/01/southland-parks-visiting-elysian-park/
Description: I painted this map of Elysian Heights for a show I called "Taste of the Mideast Side" in which I exhibited maps of various neighborhoods in the Mideast Los Angeles region. The gray cat in the compass rose is "Room 8" -- an internet celebrity cat who was world-famous before there was an internet.
Description: The Mideast Side -- also known as "Mideast Los Angeles" and "MELA" -- is a region of Central Los Angeles (i.e. Hollywood, Downtown, Midtown, and the Mideast). It's the region of Los Angeles in which I live. I wrote a primer in 2011 and painted this version of the map, the third, a couple of years later. https://ericbrightwell.com/2011/03/16/california-fools-gold-a-mideast-side-primer/
Description: Frogtown (or "Elysian Valley"), is a riparian community in Los Angeles's Mideast region. Its nickname comes from the American Toads which used to thrive there before the channelization of the Los Angeles River. I explored and made this map for my series, "California Fool's Gold," in 2009. https://ericbrightwell.com/2009/06/20/california-fools-gold-exploring-elysian-valley-aka-frogtown/
