Fantastic Science Shorts
Description: To save his life, agent Grant, pilot Captain Bill Owens (Redfield), Dr. Michaels (Pleasence), surgeon Dr. Peter Duval (Kennedy), and his assistant Cora Peterson (Welch) are placed aboard a Navy submarine (originally built to study the deep-sea spawning habits of fish) at the Combined Miniature Deterrent Forces facilities. The submarine, named Proteus, is then miniaturized to "about the size of a microbe", and injected into Benes. The team has 60 minutes to get to and remove the clot; after this, Proteus and its crew will begin to revert to their normal size, become vulnerable to Benes's immune system, and (in the words of Asimov's novelization) "kill Benes regardless of the success of the surgery.
Description: Fantastic Novels was an American science fiction and fantasy pulp magazine published by the Munsey Company of New York from 1940 to 1941, and again by Popular Publications, also of New York, from 1948 to 1951. It was a companion to Famous Fantastic Mysteries. Like that magazine, it mostly reprinted science fiction and fantasy classics from earlier decades, such as novels by A. Merritt, George Allan England, and Victor Rousseau, though it occasionally published reprints of more recent work, such as Earth's Last Citadel, by Henry Kuttner and C. L. Moore.
Description: Vintage science fiction pulp magazine cover for the March 1958 issue of Fantastic Universe, featuring an iconic surrealist illustration by Virgil Finlay depicting a man in a harlequin mask removing his head like a hat to reveal a robotic interior to a shocked blonde woman holding a green masquerade mask. The cover text highlights John Brunner's novel "Rendezvous with Destiny", "Shapes in the Sky" by Civilian Saucer Intelligence, and stories by Avram Davidson, Theodore Pratt, and R. M. Williams.
Description: Travel back to the height of mid-century space-age imagination with this striking cover art from the April 1957 issue of Fantastic Science Fiction magazine. Illustrated by the iconic sci-fi artist Edward Valigursky, the vibrant design captures a classic mad scientist trope: a serious, green-goggled technician monitors control dials while a glamorous woman remains trapped inside a giant, bubbling glass incubation capsule. The cover boldly highlights the teaser line "Bottle Baby—This Gorgeous Man Trap Came Under Glass" alongside the premiere of the serial "The Vengeance of Kyvor". It is a quintessential collectible piece for fans of retro futurism, classic pulp digests, space-age graphics, and 1950s pop culture decor.
Description: Fantastic Voyage is a 1966 American science fiction film directed by Richard Fleischer and written by Harry Kleiner, based on a story by Otto Klement and Jerome Bixby. The film is about a submarine crew who shrink to microscopic size and venture into the body of an injured scientist to repair damage to his brain.[3][4][5][6] The original story took place in the 19th century and was meant to be a Jules Verne-style adventure with a sense of wonder.[citation needed] Kleiner abandoned all but the concept of miniaturization and added a Cold War element. The film starred Stephen Boyd, Raquel Welch, Edmond O'Brien, Donald Pleasence, and Arthur Kennedy.
