Description: The great fly scare of the 1890's was brought on by the new knowledge of germs in society. Flys were seen as one of the greatest spreaders of disease and germs. This also led to a change in fashion as they wanted to keep flys out, the same flys who were attracted to ladies long dresses which would be soaked in horse shit when they left the house so women started wearing shorter skirts.
