Hot Rod Tractor Shorts
Description: The shift from animal-powered to mechanically powered farming increased productivity and made what had always been a challenging occupation more efficient. Innovations followed at a breakneck pace after the tractor’s basic machine elements had been engineered. Transmissions, pneumatic tires, hydraulic lifts, power take-off and three-point hitches made the tractor essential to running a farm, and changed American farming forever. While tractors may seem like just a boring piece of farm equipment, they're considerably more powerful and versatile than most people realize.
Description: International was an American manufacturer of agricultural and construction equipment, automobiles, commercial trucks, lawn and garden products, household equipment, and more. It was formed in 1902 with the merger of several smaller companies. In the '80s, all divisions were sold off, except for the commercial truck division, which received a new name and continues to this day. Given its monumental importance to the building of rural communities, International tractors continue to work American farms every single day, and maintain a massive cult following.
Description: The Allis Company was a major manufacturer of farming and industrial equipment in the United States for most of the Twentieth Century. Allis was headquartered in Milwuakee, Wisconsin, with a major tractor factory in nearby West Allis (a town named for the company). Financial difficulties led to dissolution in 1985 and the farm equipment operations were sold off to a German firm. Tractor production continued under German ownership until 1989.
