Description: Igniting the air/fuel mixture in high performance racing engines is not an easy task to begin with, but factor in high compression, extreme boost pressures, exotic fuels, and a litany of other variables, and it can become near impossible. In the mid- '80s, Snake Bite Ignition Systems set out to design a complete ignition solution that was not only easy to dial in for any high performance engine application, but was daily driver reliable. From their shop in Phoenix, Arizona, Snake Bite's sophisticated hand fabricated systems were capable of lighting the fire in even the nastiest of big blocks, while still being able to control timing to one-tenth of a degree for one hundredth of a second in any cylinder through individual cylinder timing.

Description: Bill Hays' claim to fame was, without question, his high performance racing clutches, but in the early '70s, he began toying with ignition systems. Legend has it that Bill wanted to simply call his new venture Hays Ignition, but was unable to, because of contractual obligations he had with another national brand. This led to the launch of Hays Stinger Ignition, which was named after the actual product he had come up with – The Stinger. These ignition systems were built to run with high horsepower, high compression engines, and could rule the drag strip all day long without fail. While they haven't been produced for decades, there are still plenty of used and new setups out there for sale, and just as many still on the street today.

One such company was Ace Electric, a manufacturer of components for alternators, generators, and starters acquired in 1970. Echlin leveraged Ace Electric to get into the high-performance ignition system market in 1972. These racing quality ignition parts were marketed under the name ACCEL which, despite fierce competition, soon became the leading name in the field and a popular upgrade among hot rod, muscle car, and drag racing enthusiasts.
