Both parties tried to convince him to become their presidential nominee in 1952, but it was the Republican's “Draft Eisenhower” movement that gained momentum using the “I Like Ike” slogan months before Eisenhower even agreed to run. And the majority of voters did like him, as Eisenhower easily defeated his Democratic opponent Adlai Stevenson twice, in 1952 and 1956.
