Description: Okomfo Anokye lived around the late 17th and early 18th centuries. His exact birthplace and dates are debated because much of his history comes from Asante oral traditions, which were later recorded by historians. He is traditionally associated with Akwapem/Akwamu areas and eventually became closely connected with Osei Tutu, the founder and first Asantehene of the unified Asante Kingdom. The title Okomfo means a traditional priest or spiritual intermediary.
