Kurtz Shorts
Description: In the film Apocalypse Now (1979), Robert Duvall wears a Yater T-shirt and has a Yater Spoon board, the latter of which is stolen by the patrol boat crew (in a scene that was cut from the original version, but seen in the Apocalypse Now Redux version). Yater was unaware he would be mentioned in the movie until after it came out. Neither of the Spoons in the film are actual Yates surfboards, but rather spruced-up second-hand boards.
Description: 'I Watched A Snail Crawl Along The Edge Of A Straight Razor. That's My Dream. That's My Nightmare: Crawling, Slithering, Along The Edge Of A Straight Razor... And Surviving.' Marlon Brando turned in a career defining performance as the psychotic Colonel Kurtz in Coppola's masterwork Apocalypse Now. The Apocalypse Now Colonel Kurtz design features one of his famous lines from the film.
Description: Venture into the deepest recesses of the human psyche with this tribute to Apocalypse Now and the haunting, final words of Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando): "The horror... the horror." Coppola’s cinematic masterpiece is an unrelenting psychological journey, exploring the true savagery that exists beyond the thin veneer of civilization. This design is for film aficionados who appreciate the film's blend of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness and the brutal, surreal reality of conflict.
Description: Many critics have raised questions about the interpretation of this phrase. Generally, it implies the horror Kurtz witnesses in Africa, though the horror could be the exploitation of Africa, evil practices of humans, his crumbling sanity, or an illusion of understanding and hope. Simply, it conveys what the West did during colonization in the name of progress, and under the guise of civilizing the natives. Darkness prevails when he dies, symbolizing that his actions were evil. Thus, it is Kurtz’s realization of the bitter and absolute truth of his life.
