Description: Mike Leigh is an English film and theatre director, screenwriter and playwright. He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), East 15 Acting School and further at the Camberwell School of Art, the Central School of Art and Design and the London School of Film Technique. He began his career as a theatre director and playwright in the mid-1960s, before transitioning to making televised plays and films for BBC Television in the 1970s and '80s. Leigh is known for his lengthy rehearsal and improvisation techniques with actors to build characters and narrative for his films. His purpose is to capture reality and present "emotional, subjective, intuitive, instinctive, vulnerable films."
Description: You may not recognize this Vivien Leigh film, and that’s because she never made it. Well, at least she didn’t finished it. In 1953, aged 39, she went to Ceylon to begin principal photography in what was about to be her next film, Elephant Walk. Her costars were Dana Andrews and aussie Peter Finch, with whom it was rumored she was having a torrid affair. After shooting on location, they all went back to Hollywood to resume shooting and that's where her mental breakdown made impossible to continue. She was taken home to England by her husband Sir Laurence Olivier for treatment and was diagnosed with manic depression (now known as bipolar disorder), and thus she was replaced in the role by a very young and also beautiful Elizabeth Taylor.
