Description: Philip Chapman Lesh, a founding member and bassist for the Grateful Dead, was a classically trained musician who pioneered a unique bass style. He played with the Dead for their entire 30-year career, blending his bass runs with Jerry Garcia's guitar to create the band's signature sound. Lesh's style was influenced by avant-garde classical music, free jazz, and improvisational jazz artists like Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
