Description: The word "print" already used in ancient French in the forms "print, estanpe, stampe" comes from the Italian stampa (print, print, press, print) whose etymology of Germanic origin derives from stampjan or francique stampôn ("Crush, knock") which gave stampfen in German (stamping foot) The stamp designates, in the strict sense, the result of printing an engraving engraving being the set of techniques that use the hollow or the incision to produce a series of images or texts. The principle is to incise or dig, using a tool or a mordant, a matrix, usually wood or metal, which after inking, is printed on paper or other media.
