Description: WMET originally hit the air on March 9, 1959, as WDHF, owned by Hi-Fi systems and record store owner James DeHaan. Its call sign stood for DeHaan Hi-Fi and operated out of DeHaan's store in Evergreen Park, Illinois with its transmitter and tower in Oak Lawn. The station was primarily an easy listening format and would eventually go to a Top 40 model after changing ownership a few times. In 1976, the station's call letters were changed to WMET, while retaining its top 40 format and by 1979 had embraced an album-oriented rock (AOR) format.
Description: Radio 1990 was a thirty-minute music video showcase program that ran during primetime on weekdays on cable. It was intended to compete directly with similar major network programs, as well dedicated music video cable channels and shows. The program ran from March 1983 until September 1986, and was hosted by Lisa Robinson and Kathryn Kinley, and frequently featured '80s rock stars as guest co-hosts.
Description: Mention a racetrack that operated in Brooklyn for more than 55 years, and people will think you're crazy, but they're clearly just not in the know. Buzz-a-Rama was a slot car racing venue that was opened in 1965 by Buzz and Dolores Perri that had multiple electrified racing tracks, vintage arcade games, and dusty glass displays selling slot-car racing parts. The hobby was extremely popular in the '60s, with dozens of similar raceways in the city, but Buzz-A-Rama was the last commercial slot-car track in operation in NYC. While other tracks had died out decades ago, Buzz kept his open, even though it made no money, saying that if he didn't own the building, it would have been long gone as well.
