These 'radical' women took to discussing the issues in groups that they already belonged to, such as book clubs and sewing circles. Since it seemed such a radical departure from expected behavior, the name 'Ladies' Sewing Circle and Terrorist Society' was chosen as it was both ironic and humorous.
