Description: Practical effects, also known as special effects (SFX), are visual effects created physically on set, rather than through computer-generated imagery (CGI). These effects are achieved using real-world materials, props, and physical mechanisms. Examples include explosions, makeup, animatronics, miniatures, and even weather effects like rain or smoke. While founded in the '70s, Los Angeles-based SWFX didn't hit its stride until the '80s, and was so good at what they did, the studio remained in demand well into the 2000s despite the increasing use of CGI-based effects.
