Description: During the Gründerzeit, at the end of the 19th century, breweries sprang up like mushrooms in Cologne. This period also saw the founding of the PRIVATE BREWERY HEINRICH REISSDORF - then called the TOP-FERMENTED BREWERY HEINRICH REISSDORF - in 1894 in Cologne's Severinsviertel. Its founder, Heinrich Reißdorf, originally came from a long-established farming family who were blacksmiths and wagon builders in Zieverich, now the municipality of Bergheim. A few years later, in 1905, the name "Kölsch" was first used for the top-fermented Cologne beer specialty, which had previously been called "Wiess".
