Description: Action Park was an amusement and water park located in Vernon Township, New Jersey, United States, on the grounds of the Vernon Valley/Great Gorge ski resort. The park consisted primarily of water-based attractions and originally opened to the public in 1978, under the ownership of Great American Recreation (GAR). Many of its attractions were unique, attracting thrill-seekers from across the New York metropolitan area. Action Park's popularity went hand-in-hand with a reputation for poorly designed rides, under-trained and under-aged staff, intoxicated guests and staff, and a consequently poor safety record. At least six people are known to have died as a result of mishaps on rides at the park.

Built on a massive pile of excavated earth from the Mount Baker Tunnel project in Seattle, the park was sitting on an artificial mountain on land that would all too soon be too valuable, leading to its closure in 1988.

Despite western Washington’s notoriously cool and rainy climate, Waterworks Park boasted over a mile of waterslides, including thrill rides like the “Black Hole,” and featured the largest hot tub in the Northwest. Designed as a seasonal attraction, it operated during the summer months but ultimately closed in 1988 due to rising land value and limited warm-weather viability. Today, the site is part of a sprawling business park, but Waterworks Park remains a no
