Description: The 34th Armor Regiment is an armored regiment of the United States Army formed in 1941. The 1st Battalion, 34th Armor was reactivated at Fort Riley, Kansas on 1 August 1979 and assigned to the 1st Infantry Division (United States), the "Big Red One." From 1980 to 1990 the Centurion Battalion participated in numerous field-training exercises to include 4 REFORGER trips to Germany, and 4 deployments to the National Training Center in California. In December 1990, the Battalion deployed to Operation Desert Shield in Saudi Arabia. Description: Constituted as the 34th Field Artillery in the National Army and assigned to the 12th Division on 5 July 1918, the Regiment was organized on 7 August 1918 at Camp McClellan, Alabama. It saw no action in World War I and was demobilized in February 1919. Reorganized and redesignated on 1 October 1940 as the 34th Field Artillery Battalion, the unit served with the 9th Infantry Division in World War II and took part in seven campaigns in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater, earning a President Unit Citation and a Belgian Fourragere 1940 with two citations in the Order of the Day of the Belgian Army. In 1957, the unit was relieved from assignment to the 9th Infantry Division.
Description: The 34th Red Bull Infantry Division is an infantry division of the United States Army, part of the Army National Guard, that participated in World War I and World War II. It was the first American division deployed to Europe in World War II, where it fought with great distinction in the Italian Campaign. The division was deactivated in 1945, and the 47th "Viking" Infantry Division later created in the division's former area. In 1991 the 47th Division was redesignated the 34th.
